Kindle Fire — Can you say Christmas?

kindlefiregame 300x153 Kindle Fire Can you say Christmas?Introducing the New Kindle Fire

Amazon recently introduced the new Kindle Fire which is on pre-order state right now and will be available on Novermber 15th (my Birthday by the way).  The Kindle Fire looks to be just amazing…  I bought the color nook for $249 so that I could have ereader/table in one, but had I had the option the Kindle Fire would have been the one.  The kindle Fire will be offered in time for Christmas… I think I just figured out what Santa is bringing my 7 year old…

Why the Kindle Fire?

Kindle Fire offers about 7 hours of battery life, the ability to watch movies and with the Android 2.1 more game apps than my son will know what to do with… the color will also make this a fine children’s book ereader.  I had friends that looked into the iPad for each of their children, but it was just too much money… here for under $200 you can get a stripped down version… Just perfect for any age.

The Kindle Fire has one drawback in my eyes… only WiFi, no 3G like that of their higher end eReaders, but for the price who can complain.  I figure down the road they will introduce something else with the 3G or whatever else is next.  There are plenty other details with regards to the kindle fire… many of which go right over my head, so please click here for a full list of technical details.

Of course the Kindle Fire has access to all books on Amazon, it has 8GB of storage (I haven’t read anything with the ability to add more or not… maybe if someone knows you could leave it in the comment section).  It can run video or games for up to 7 hours (good enough for a car trip) and it obviously has the touch screen that is so important for gaming.  My son just loves the games on my iphone so this will be great.

Kindle Fire:  A Great Christmas Gift

I think that the introduction of the Kindle Fire servers a perfect place in the market.  A lower end, Tablet/eReader for children and adults alike.  It is said to be simple to use and the images certainly look that way.  To read more or put your pre-order in for the new Kindle Fire please click the link below.

Ereader Comparison Graph

Ereader Comparison Graph

I know that ereader comparison shopping can be a bit overwhelming.  I have attempted to put together a graph of “non techie” qualities that the top ereaders have to offer.  So is this ereader comparison graph I hope to touch on the important characteristics of each (of course this is my opinion of what is important).

graph Ereader Comparison Graph

There are plenty of ereader comparisons for 2010 but this one is for 2011… now I know it will quickly be outdated with all the new tablets coming out.  There is however something to be said about the simplicity of an ereader.

After an ereader comparison, I am sure you will notice that if you are looking for color to read your magazines then you are down to the Color NOOK, Panasonic also makes a color one, but the price is high and the ereader is not that impressive so I have left it out of the list.  If you want the lightest ereader then you are looking at Kobo Touch Reader…  if you are looking for battery life then the All New Nook is your reader.

Also when ereader comparison shopping you want to think about where you will be reading.  I read in the sun and my NookColor STINKS!  I really love it for all it can do, but for reading in sunlight it doesn’t do well.

Ereader Comparison Shopping

Ereader comparison shopping can be a bit daunting… really there is no one ereader that has it all.  What I am waiting for next is a color/e-ink mode so you can switch back and forth.  Color for when you go online or read a magazine and e-ink for reading a book.  I don’t know if that is even possible, but it would be cool.

Ereader Comparison the hunt will go on

One thing is for sure, when you are ereader comparison shopping, you will always be bombarded with new information and new ereaders.  It is defiantly a hot market.  I was at TJ Maxx the other day and they had 2 different ones for sale in there.  They were the Literati (or something) and they had the first Kobo.  I almost grabbed the Kobo so I had the e-ink for reading at the beach.  One thing is for sure if price is a major factor in your ereader comparison, you are in luck because the prices keep going down.

eReader Comparison | Conclusion

When eReader comparison shopping it is important to find what fits your needs the best.  If it is price then you are best off with Kindle or the Kobo… if it is color that you seek than the NOOK Color or the Pandigital Reader may better suit you.  Just make sure you take your time and explore all the different options.  I happen to think the new NOOK is very cool, is is ultra lightweight and offers the no glare in the sun.  When eReader Comparison shopping you defiantly want to think about where you plan to read you ebook.  If it is at the beach or by the pool, go for an eInk print… if you want to play games in the car than maybe the color variety would be better.  Whatever the case it is very important that you focus on eReader comparison charts and articles before you make your decision.  Most importantly when eReader comparison shopping is make the list of things YOU want in an ereader and then do your ereader comparison looking for those attributes.

eReader Comparison: eBook Formats

nook eReader Comparison: eBook Formats

eBook Formats for eReader Comparison

When doing ereader comparison shopping and deciding which is the best ebook reader for you, you should have an understanding of the variety of formats available. Make sure in your ereader comparison checklist that the ereader you are looking at offers the format you want it to. Here is a brief explanation to explain the most common forms available.

ePub eReader Comparison

ePub was created by the International Digital Publishing Forum. You ereader comparison chart will most likely check off this form in all ereaders, as it  is supported by most of the newer ereaders,
including Kindle, Sony and others.. The benefit to this format is that it is reflowable meaning that text is not formatted for one specific page size, and lines will flow correctly without odd
interruptions in the lines. When doing your ereader comparison, this format is very important and should be sought after.

PDF eReader Comparison

You all know this one…it happens to be one that most files from the internet are. . The downside to using the PDF format on electronic book readers is that lines are a fixed length when
the ebook was created, so sometimes when it converts onto your ereader, the lines may not display correctly.  Depending on what you are reading on your ebook, this may or may not be
important to you.  I do a lot of online training, so for me PDF was very important.  PDF is quite useful as an additional format in eReaders and you may want
to include it during your ereader comparison.

Plain Text (TXT)

Plain Text is very rarely used and may not be that important in your ereader comparison.

Amazon Kindle (AZW) eReader Comparison

This is the format that was developed by Amazon to work with their Kindle eReader. AZW files work with the Kindle and are purchased from the Amazon book store.  Until recently they would only readable on the
Kindle… I have heard that there is a “kindle to pc” software that will let you read the books on your PC too.

eReader (PDB)

This was created for PALM sonyebook eReader Comparison: eBook Formatshand-held device, and it is not standard with the newer ebooks readers. Please do not get confused between the two.
This format will probably not work with your ebook unless it specifically says so.

Sony Reader (BbeB/ LRF)

This is used by Sony Reader. Sony Reader devices can read other formats.  You will mostly find ePub formats as standard, rather than BbeB when you are doing your ereader comparison.

eReader Comparison Conclusion

These are the most common eBook formats you will run into.  There are many eReader comparison graphs to help you find out what version each has.   This should help you understand the differences as you do your ereader comparison.  Remember when to read the specs carefully, and do not listen to the sales people per se… do you own eReader Comparison to make sure you choose the perfect ereader for you.

What Is Important When You Compare Ereaders

ereaders What Is Important When You Compare EreadersCompare Ereaders: What is the right one for you?

When you are looking to compare Ereaders there is no correct answer.  Simply put it is what fits your needs best.  You need to consider where you will be buying the books, do you want internet access, what about magazines, print size and battery life.  Here is a brief guide to some of the features you can compare ereaders to help make your decision that little bit easier.

When you compare ereaders, you will see that most ereaders all share the same reading formats. Models such as the Kindle and Sony eReader allow users to read standard eBook formats (ePub) as well as other digital documents, including PDF files.  Now, depending on you need, you may also want to compare any other formats the reader can handle, including images or audio files. The top selling eBook readers can now most likely handle MP3 files and more.

Compare Ereaders Input Device

You’ll want to compare the input device that the eReader uses. The most important thing to compare is comfort.  Is it comfortable to hold the ebook reader?  Weight, features and design all play an important part when you compare ereaders. Do you want the newest on the market, or are you looking for a tried and true version?  Or maybe you just want something simple? An example is the Kindle ebook readers makes use of a keyboard and buttons, whereas the Sony ebook eReaders and Barnes & Noble Nook make use of touch screens. Some readers also make use of a stylus, making input simple.

The ability to take notes while reading eBooks is a feature that may be quite useful for a number of people: students who are studying, businessmen who need to jot down ideas on the go, or just inspiring words of wisdom. Compare eReaders ability to take notes, or highlight phrases.

Compare Ereaders Reading Experience

Probably the best eBook reader is the one that matches a real book best. Kindle for example has a glare free, black and white look that in my opinion best mimics that of a book.  The Barnes & Noble Color Nook is great for reading magazines because of the color.  Most ebook readers do use the latest e-Ink technology for a screen that does not put any strain on the eyes. Of course, it helps to take a close look at some videos of the models in action before making your decision.

eBook readers are slim and sleek and can weigh less than the average book.  Compare ereaders screen sizes, weight, width, price and colors.  If you are looking for a specific feature make sure to check out the technical guide.  I found a review that was helpful when trying to compare the kindle and the nook.  The kindle is MUCH lighter, but the nook had color.  I personally went with the color, and bought the nook, but yes… it is much heavier.

Also, how long does the ebook reader take a charge… or how long can you read, surf the web or listen to songs before you need to charge your reader again?

ipad300x250 What Is Important When You Compare EreadersDon’t Forget to Compare EReaders Extra Features

Compare EReaders extras:  games, books, organization or library abilities, movies, MP3 Players, take notes, do you need to be connected to the internet or does it work on 3G network or something like that?  There are many extras to consider, and it really comes down to price and what options are you looking for.  Clearly you need to closely compare ereaders before you go buy one.   eBook readers can do a lot more than just hold your books!  Make sure to take the time and compare eReaders carefully before you got out and buy one.
